Social media causes worse influences than you supposed
No one can deny social media is a great tools for entertainment and stress relief. The reason being is that these sites allows people to express or share their feeling, memories as well as emotion. However, contrary to what people think, social networks have many negative effects.

According to a study in the US, more than half of individuals regularly using social networks feel their mental health is negatively affected, common mental health conditions are anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction with life quality,... The reason may come from users seeing flashy images, luxurious lives or outstanding success of peers, singers, actors or KOLs KOCs. From there, they feel inferior, failed, and incompetent. This will lead to many serious consequences such as lack of confidence, anxiety disorders, loneliness, and discouragement...

Peer pressure forms from self-comparison
First of all, I should say that a lot of individuals are likely to show their achievements on social sites. And the reason being is that it is a form for them to reward themselves after their efforts to achieve those achievements. When posting those achievements on social networks, they can share positive and happy emotions as well as receive compliments from relatives, friends, and teachers about their flashiness at that time. At its peak, in mid-May 2023, a group on Facebook called "Flex đến hơi thở cuối cùng" was established and its purpose is for people to "flex" about their achievements. As a result, many people had a "playground" to show off their own glamor, while some people felt jealous and stressed when reading those posts.

Comparing yourself with other individual's images on social networks is the most common problem for most social users. Do you often feel jealous of what others are doing that you haven't been capable of doing? If so, don't worry too much, because all of us have been in that situation at least a few times. When you see a friend complete the exam and get the title of excellent student while you can't even get the title of good student, you may admire your friend's achievements. But simultaneously, you feel disgusted because you haven't made a productive study plan.

Similarly, people are always jealous of a colleague who is vacationing abroad and constantly "reports" the luxurious trip on Instagram. While you haven't had a proper vacation and are still immersed in deadlines every day.

Protecting yourself from online peer pressure is not difficult!!
In order to get out of this situation, first, you need to realize that you are comparing your whole life with just a few "glorious" online moments of others. What people show you is not their entire real life. So keep believing in your own values, goals and dreams, when and only when you do that can you be more confident and not be blinded by the flashy values of others. This will help you concentrate on your core values in life and strive for your goals. From there, you will see that your life is on the right track and there is no need to be jealous or compare with the success or lives of those around you.
